On October 24th, we will gather at the Chabad Center for a meaningful and multifaceted evening, where we will celebrate the joy of Simchat Torah and honor the memory of those tragically lost at the Nova Festival.
First, we will embrace the joyous spirit of Simchat Torah, a holiday that marks the completion of the annual cycle of Torah readings and the start of a new one. Jews around the world celebrate the Torah "the first five books of the Bible–with great fanfare, including dancing and the singing of piyyutim (liturgical poems).
It is not simply "joy with the Torah" or “joy from the Torah," but the “joy of the Torah,” as the Torah itself rejoices with us. Come celebrate with us, enjoy delicious deli food, and feel the lively, festive atmosphere of Simchat Torah.
Later in the evening, we will pause to honor the victims of the Nova Festival and the over 1,100 souls lost on that devastating day, which corresponds to the Hebrew date of October 7th, 2023. This memorial will be a time of reflection, healing, and remembrance as we stand united in solidarity with the families and communities affected. We will hold moments of silence, reflections, and share sounds that serve as a poignant reminder of the tragic backdrop of war.
Together, we will celebrate the joy of Torah while also ensuring that the memories of those lost are never forgotten. Let us come together in unity, honoring both the Torah and the lives cut short with respect and dignity.
